NEW MINISTRIES COMMITTEE
ROCKY MOUNTAIN ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Dear Friends,
I greet you in the name of our glorious Lord, Jesus Christ.
In 2004, our Annual Conference adopted an aggressive program of Church
Growth and Expansion through the 12 x 12 x 12 program. We said
that we would start 12 new urban churches, 12 new rural churches, and
12 new
ethnic ministries within our
Conference by the end of 2012. This is truly an exciting plan and
it will take all of our efforts to see it through to completion.
The New Ministries Committee has asked the Bishop and each District
Superintendent to designate a person from each District or Sub-District
to be the “point” person for spreading the gospel of new
ministry growth. At the same time each District/Sub-District has been
asked to identify at least five potential opportunities for the development
of new ministries in their area.
The Committee is also asking every church in the Conference to open
its pulpit to the inspiring message of New Ministries (see you D.S. for
a list of speakers). At the same time you are asked to receive a special
offering for the task we face.
The bulletin or newsletter insert that follows this message is ready
to be downloaded and printed for your individual congregation(s). Please
schedule a Sunday before Annual Conference session in June when you can
share the exciting news of new ministries.
I know there are some who will ask, “Why should we take a special
offering to start new churches when we can barely keep the doors to our
own church open?” I want you to know that I sympathize with churches
that struggle – we are all in this together. And I want to remind
you that when your church started almost invariably it did so with help
from a neighboring congregation, the Conference, or in some cases, churches
and Conferences far away from here. That was the way it was when our
area was the frontier. Now it is time for us to do our part of see new
churches and new ministries grow so that we can take the Good News of
our Lord to the multitudes who currently are not reached by our existing
congregations.
I thank you for your faithfulness and look forward to announcing the
results of our “open pulpits” and special offering at the
next session of Annual Conference.
In His Service,
King H. Harris,
For the Committee
