2008 School of Christian Mission Meets in Seven Locations
The School of Christian Mission provides an opportunity for worship, fellowship
and the study of the global mission of the church and the responsibility of
Christians within it, and provides information and training for those who plan
to teach the studies in their churches. This year’s School meets in seven
locations around the Conference (the Pueblo event has been cancelled).
Co-Sponsored by Rocky Mountain Conference, United Methodist Church and United
Methodist Women, Darlene Woods, Dean, Rev. Lynn Evans, Assistant Dean. Brochure

2008 Theme: Living the Sacred
As followers of Christ, as Christians in community, let us deepen our understanding
of what it means to live in sacred harmony. Then let us walk together in ways
that lead to peace and reconciliation.
The Studies
I Believe in Jesus
The study deals with four key components: the gift of faith in Jesus Christ;
the meaning of faith in Jesus; whose faith counts and; faith in Jesus in
a postmodern world. Knowing Jesus is not the task of a select few, but rather
the work of the people of God. The Christian community is enabled to be faithful
to Christ Jesus as it receives the witness of its many members. The issue
of how we discern what is faithful to the Gospel message is an ongoing theological
task of the church.
Israel/Palestine
Learn about the history and complexities of relationships between Israel and
Palestine. Explore and understand the concepts of security and freedom that
dominate the lives of these peoples. Examine current issues of racism, terrorism,
occupation, refugees and liberation. Learn of the impact of conflict on women
and children and the use/abuse of religion on Mid-eastern and U. S. policy.
Giving Our Hearts Away: Native American Survival
The purposes of this study are to learn about the inter-relatedness between
the indigenous peoples and their land, to identify key issues affecting the
Native Americans in the U.S. and to examine the root causes of these issues,
to understand and appreciate the “Give Away” culture of the Native
Americans in the areas of spirituality, ecology, language, story-telling,
food, and to lead the participants to act as responsible US citizens and
Christians in accompaniment and solidarity with Native Americans.
