Part-time Organist or Pianist, Father Dyer UMC, Breckenridge (posted 5/12/08)

Father Dyer UMC, a growing church in Breckenridge, Colorado, is looking for a part-time organist or pianist. Come live, work, or retire near one of the largest ski resorts in the mountains of Colorado.

Duties include one service weekly and one rehearsal. Occasional special services such as Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve may also be included for additional compensation. We estimate the position to be appoximately 7.5 hours per week. Hours are estimated as follows:

  • 1.5 hours of choir rehearsal on Thursdays
  • 2 hours on Sunday morning (including morning rehearsal)
  • 1 hour of rehearsal with soloists
  • 3 hours of personal preparation

This position pays $200-$250 per service depending on qualifications and may also include benefits such as a ski pass, teaching privileges, continuing education, membership to professional organizations, and a materials budget. Additional duties in church membership and/or pastoral care could be added to increase number of hours and pay. This is a great community to earn substantial income teaching piano/organ lessons and playing weddings in addition to your duties at the church. A demonstrated competence is required in piano music, hymns, and solo accompanying in the traditional style. Competency in organ and contemporary music is a definite plus. Currently, service music consists of prelude, prayer time music, offertory/vocal solo, postlude, two hymns, and choral responses. Position reports to the Worship Committee.

Father Dyer UMC owns a two manual Allen Organ (MD-13) with full midi capabilities. This organ was purchased about five years ago. The church also owns a Kawai Grand Piano and a Yamaha Grand Piano.
