Greetings in Christ's name!
For
those of you who are under appointment, and
those of you elected to conference leadership, this page
is very important: PLEASE
READ CAREFULLY.
Several
changes were made in 2001 to strengthen our communications
system in the Conference, and they involve elected and appointed
members of the Conference
directly. These are highlighted below. Again, be sure to
read and understand these changes.
E-mail
is the primary way that "news" information
is sent from the conference office (see
examples).
A summary of the most important e-mails of the previous month
is published once a month in TableTalk. TableTalk is sent to
the News list and mailed by US Postal Service bulk mail only
to those who do not have
e-mail, for obvious budget reasons (a years worth of TT costs
about $12/person)..
Conference
e-mails will come using 3 distinct addresses or titles
so that you can instantly see whether you must read
them, should read them,
or can read them according to your interests. These
are:
ALERT-List:
If
you are under appointment or an elected leader, you must read
the message.* "Alert" messages will be infrequent
and only contain information that is official, important and urgent.
This could include natural disasters in our region involving
one of our churches, an UMCOR number for giving in response
to disaster elsewhere, or critical information such as a
change of date for Annual Conference sessions. The
background rationale is here.
All information on this list originates in the Conference
Office.
*Failure
to know information posted via this address will be the
recipient's liability. (Read the
Rationale for this.) Alert messages will be posted
twice, the second time approx. 3 days after the first posting
in order to bypass any local/short-term delivery problems.
Alert messages will also be posted to a page on the Conference
website so users can double-check information.
NEWS-List:
If
you are under appointment or an elected leader, you should read
the message: this is the main forum for information pertaining
to the Conference. "RMC News" messages will
contain a variety of information that is official, most of
it important, but not usually urgent. For example, appointment
changes and "TableTalk" will be sent using this
address. All information on this list originates in the Conference
Office. Recent posts may be seen here
on the News Page.
Bulletin
Board:
This
address is just what it sounds like — it is like the refrigerator
door in some homes, where information, news, requests, jobs,
etc. may be listed. Dialogue, described below, is an open list;
postings to this list must be sent to the Conference Office,
usually Ben Roe, Information
Administrator, where they will be collected, headlined and
sent out every week or so, with the main body of material posted
to the conference web-site. If you see a headline that interests
you, check the web-site for the full content. All information
on this list is posted from the Conference Office. Posts
may be seen here on the Bulletin
Board page.
Dialogue:
This
is a special part of the Community
Bulletin Board that serves
as a forum for opinions, recommendations, and referrals. All posts
are monitored for appropriateness and occasionally moderated. Visit
it here.
NEXT, how
you can participate:
How do I get on or off certain e-mail lists? You have some options:
Persons who are
appointed or elected to annual conference membership
or conference committees will be automatically added to the News
and Alert lists. Elected conference
(lay) leadership are added to News and Alert because of their need
to know what is going on in the Conference so they can make informed
choices on petitions and Conference budget at the Annual Conference
sessions.
If you wish to be added to the Bulletin Board e-mail list, please
e-mail Ben@rmcumc.com. Anyone can request
their name/address be removed from
the Bulletin Board list.
The Community Bulletin Board
has been developed as a quick-access forum for swapping
local church resources, etc.) To have your name removed, make your
request with an e-mail
to Ben@rmcumc.com..
Persons under appointment
will be maintained in the "Alert" and "News" address
groups regardless. Review the rationale
here.
More
background information on this changing system can be found here.
Thank you for spending time on our connection.
