Fourth of July - time to celebrate! The Hispanic ministry in the Rocky Mountain Conference knows how to celebrate. During the Fourth of July weekend, three ministries from our conference got together for a time of celebration and unity. The Hispanic ministry at Rawlins UMC, Pan de Vida at Brentwood UMC, and El Remanente at First Aurora UMC attended their third annual family camping trip to Buckhorn United Methodist Camp in Bellvue, Colorado. Rev. Cesar M. Duran, the new coordinator for Hispanic/Latino Ministry at the RMC, was also in attendance for this event. Ryan Culby and the staff at Buckhorn were very hospitable and flexible. They made sure we felt right at home and had everything we needed.
This year’s theme, organized by Pastor Hugo Melo, was Buscando El Rostro de Dios (Seeking God’s Face). Based off of 2nd Chronicles 7:14, which states “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (NIV). The nightly worship services and workshops revolved around this theme. The workshops were divided by men, women, youth/young adults, and different age ranges between the children. There were also competitive games. We had physical games such as a volleyball tournament, tug of war, water balloon games etc. Pastor Rafael Luna’s church took the gold prize in our volleyball tournament. We also had games to strengthen our knowledge of the scriptures. We had Biblical Trivia conducted by Pastor Manuel Jimenez. The competition and knowledge within our churches was so impressive it came down to a one-on-one match. During these games, some members wore t-shirts representing their churches. Even though there was a representation of churches, we all came together as children of God in one spirit during the worship services and in prayer. Some people accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. What truly caught my interest was the campfire on Saturday night. There were s’mores, blankets, and we all praised Our Creator with guitars and voices unanimously. It truly was reviving.
God’s ambient of joy and freedom was present during the weekend. Approximately 150 children, youth, and adults attended this year’s family camp. The Hispanic Ministry of the Rocky Mountain Conference is active. We are living for God and making things happen in our conference. We are in touch.
Campamento del Ministerio Hispano de la Rocky Mountain Conference
El 4 de Julio es un tiempo para celebrar! El Ministerio Hispano de la Conferencia Rocky Mountain sabe cómo celebrar. Durante el fin de semana del 4 de Julio, tres ministerios de la conferencia se reunieron para un tiempo de unidad y celebración. El ministerio hispano de Rawlings UMC, Pan de Vida de Brentwood UMC, y El Remanente de First Aurora UMC asistieron su 3er campamento anual de familias en el Campamento Buckhorn de la Iglesia Metodista en Bellvue, Colorado. El Reverendo Cesar M. Duran, el Nuevo coordinador de ministerios Hispanos/Latinos también estuvo presente, introduciéndose de esta manera a su trabajo en la Conferencia Rocky Mountain. Ryan Culby y otros empleados del campamento fueron hospitalarios y se aseguraron que nos sintiéramos en casa y bienvenidos.
El tema de este anno fue, organizado por el pastor Hugo Melo, Buscando el Rostro de Dios. Basado en el versículo Bíblico en 2da de Crónicas 7:14, que dice –si se humillare mi pueblo, sobre el cual mi nombre es invocado, y oraren, y buscaren mi rostro, y se convirtieren de sus malos caminos; entonces yo oiré desde los cielos, y perdonaré sus pecados, y sanaré su tierra (RVR1960). Los servicios y talleres estuvieron basados sobre este tema. Los talleres fueron divididos por hombres, mujeres, jóvenes, y diferentes edades entre los niños. También tuvimos competencias de juegos . Tuvimos juegos deportivos como un torneo de voleibol, jalar la cuerda, y juegos con globos de agua. La iglesia del Pastor Rafael Luna se llevó el primer lugar en el torneo de voleibol. Aparte de juegos físicos, también tuvimos juegos para fortalecer nuestro conocimiento de las escrituras. Tuvimos Preguntas Bíblicas, dirigidas por el Pastor Manuel Jimenez. La competencia y conocimiento entre las Iglesias fue parejo que tuvimos que tener un desempate. Durante los juegos, algunos miembros se pusieron la playera de su iglesia. Aunque había representación de Iglesias, todos nos unimos en un mismo espíritu para adorar a nuestro Dios en los servicios y en la oración. Incluso, algunas personas recibieron a Cristo Jesús como su Señor y Salvador ese fin de semana. Lo que llamo mi atencion fue la fogata el sábado por la noche. Tuvimos galletas con bombón y chocolate, y todos cantábamos y adorábamos a nuestro creador en un mismo sentir alrededor de la fogata envueltos en cobijas. Verdaderamente fue de gran bendicion.
El ambiente de alegría y libertad de nuestro Dios estuvo presente durante el fin de semana. Aproximadamente 150 niños, jóvenes, y adultos asistieron a este campamento familiar. El Ministerio Hispano de la Conferencia Rocky Mountain está en acción. Estamos viviendo para Cristo y estamos activos en nuestra conferencia. Bendiciones y hasta la proxima.
